Good one, Mr.N! laughing3.gif laughing3.gif

I recently read People of the Book written by Geraldine Brooks. It's about an old book that was in danger during the war in Sarajevo. It's completely fascinating. The technical details of how an old book is examined, the stories of the people who were touched by the book's passage through different areas of Europe. It's just a great story!

Now, I am reading "Anna Frank".
The Diary Of Anne Frank was written by young Anne Frank during World War II and the Jewish Holocaust. Anne Frank and her family were Jewish and all went well until they realized that they must go into hiding or they would be sent to the concentration camps and most certainly would perish. A couple of people were able to help the Franks go into hiding so the entire family packed up and went to live underground. By underground, I mean that they lived in a portion of a building that had a hidden opening and they lived in the space beyond. There was also another family that lived with them. While they were in hiding, precocious young Anne kept a diary of all the events that happened, mundane, ordinary, terrifying and otherwise. No one knew that her journal would one day serve as a living record of what Jewish people went through during the Holocaust, and the fear and terror they faced on a daily basis. The Diary Of Anne Frank also chronicles her growing up, as she begins her period and likes a boy. Anne Frank’s diary became an international success and I just have to wonder what she would have thought about that. Anne Frank’s diary is so poignant, real and straight from her heart. She actually is a good writer! A must read for everyone, young and old.
