I use AVG free, and I beef that up with another piece of free software - Malwarebytes. These two in tandem usually take care of all viruses and trojan horses.

For spyware I'd recommend Adaware, and Spybot search and destroy...All free.

I personally use Kaspersky 2010 for resident protection and MBAM for scans when i need them,i find this combo very effective and havent had a single virus in 6 months!

Noton has missed things that AVG has spotted on occasion.

But a real gripe with Norton has to be removal, it's seldom a simple uninstall and comes with a special exe file to sort out the registry settings.

Best combo - AVG + Spybot S&D , good for most parts of the internet and nearly all computers. Better still, both are free!

No anti-virus program is going to catch everything. The best defense against viruses is a good virus scanner AS WELL as being smart and not doing anything that could potentially get you a virus. Sort of like IRL. You can get all the vaccinations against the flu that you want.. it's still good to avoid people with the flu. wink3.gif

That being said.. from everything I've seen and read, Avira AntiVir has the best free antivirus out there. Avast! is second best and AVG is third.

The only way to get better protection is to pay for either NOD32 or Kaspersky.

Best way to avoid virus. Get a Mac computer or use Linux.

Isolate one windows computer just to play games.
