Check the BIOS settings there may be an option to treat the SATA drive as an IDE device

Alternative - get the SATA driver from Compaq and a copy of nLite (free download) then build a new install CD.

In Newer laptop we are finding that if ,we will set "IDE" BIOS setting then we can do install the window XP and if we set "AHCI" setting in BIOS then we can install window7.If we want to install win7 on IDE setting then it can not be done. And like it win XP can not be install on "AHCI" setting.

Yes you can install Windows XP on this laptop. I think you first check your BIOS setting, after correcting the BIOS setting your hard drive is get detected. And then you can able to install XP.

HP Notebook PCs with the HP Startup Support Environment.

Perform a hard disk test
  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Press Esc during the restart process to access the HP Startup Menu, and then press F2 to access the System Diagnostics window.
  3. Select the Hard Disk test and allow it between thirty to sixty minutes to complete.

Hi,
Is there a keystroke that will get you into the laptop's BIOS settings? If so, once you get in there, look for a setting that will allow the laptop to boot directly from the CD drive first, then boot from your WinXP CD.

Thanks

Yes all computers have this!

Since about 10 years ago all computers are set for CD Drive first. Or they have a function key to select the boot drive
