I decided to start a new topic after resolving my previous problem i have came across another. I recently go a few trojan viruses from opening a document, after much appreciated help from Pizza, thank you again sir, I have got rid of the trojan viruses.

Now the new problem is norton will not start. Well what happens is when i double click the Norton Anti-Virus my mouse shows the loading sign and then disappears i am thinking a trojan or another virus attacked it.

I have found a few things on yahoo answers mostly only bashing how much norton sucks though so nothing to helpful there. I am sure most of you will agree that norton is a crap anti-vrius and that i should get rid of it and i also agree now after having all of this crap happen but i dont want to get rid of it until I have used up my subscription.

Since you have Norton AntiVirus, did you contact their Support?

As for Norton AntiVirus being "crap" that may be your, and other's, opinion.

I used Norton AntiVirus for years, with very little problem. We use Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition at work and it's outstanding. Norton AntiVirus = Symantec's Home & Small Business version.

I dumped Norton AntiVirus when they came out with their 2009 version. Why? It has a feature called Sonar which deleted files WITHOUT asking. Therefore I no longer can trust Norton to confirm ALL deletions (aka ASK users if it's OK to delete a file).

I switched to McAfee AntiVirus Scan 2009 at home.

Note that I looked at BitDefender AntiVirus 2009 (Company inception in 2001) because they are top-rated, but they're a new-kid on the block, compared to Norton/Symantec or McAfee both of which have been around since Windows. The "age" of a company providing Antivirus software is important because if such a companies dies, your Virus Data Updates will likely stop. Not good especially if you are not notified.

Normaly when i contact norton their fix is "shut down all other programs and restart your computer" this sometimes works but not this time. I will try to talk to norton and see what they can offer.

Have you tried booting in safe mode and scanning?
I would try this program if you still have no joy.
Its called Norman malware cleaner. (no its not a wind up)
here is a link for it.
http://www.freewarefiles.com/Norman-Malwar...gram_27031.html

This is a hunter, killer program that dosent install into your system.
Usually i dont like auto delete programs but in this case it might be useful.
Once downloaded let it run. (approx 40min)
If you have trojans etc it will take care of them and give you a full report.
I use this for systems that have their a.v disabled as it dosen't install, it dosen't clash..
Good luck..

I don't care for Norman that much. And also it is out of date...

have a look at this eye chart

then take a look at danthvadors list of spyware scanners and antiviruses. there all very good.

I would recommend the free AntiVir rather than Norton but that's not the issue here right? If your computer was infected, the only way to be sure you got rid of all the bugs is to back up your data, wipe the drive clean (format the drive completely at the least), and reinstall the operating system. Several years ago a friend of mine had the same problem with Norton and I found around 10 different viruses, trojans, etc. These days the malware is too tricky. You can't be sure you got it all. The fact that Norton isn't working may be a good indication you still have some bugs there that are disabling it. Whether or not people like Norton or McAfee doesn't really matter. Those two programs are the two most popular which makes them the two most targeted. That means a lot of malware out there is designed to defeat Norton and McAfee.

If you really want to, you may be able to restore Norton if you uninstall and reinstall it. I don't know if it will allow you to do that without trying to charge you again for the subscription. Best of luck.
