» Help me troubleshoot please
Posted by monroe - 02-8-10 20:36 - 0 comments
I just don't seem to know what it is. Please help me. First off, if it's a virus, it's undetectable by AVG. It all started when my computer's screen went black one day for no apparent reason and I had to restart my computer twice to get the image back. Then when the image was back, the mouse wheel would scroll too fast and I wasn't able to access the control panel, so I restarted again and other things weren't working. Windows movie maker, which always worked before, would say it wasn't responding after being opened. I searched online and disabled its codecs one by one until I isolated the one that was causing the issue. Today, I was trying to import mp4's, which was working great, but then when I tried to do it again, it told me that it couldn't do it. I downloaded the k-lite codec pack and was working on a WMM project when something else happened. I had recorded a band playing with both an audio recorded and a video camera, and since the audio recorder's audio was better, I needed to sync the video and audio. I did so, and quite well too, but now when I play the whole thing, the audio gets off and on at different parts.

I know it's probably a hardware problem, but what?

the video and sound output randomly cut off. I'll be doing something and the computer will stay on, but the monitor and speakers stop receiving. I'm suspecting motherboard issues based on problems with everything?.

» Using PC as external hard drive for Mac
Posted by thesilentbob - 02-8-10 18:06 - 1 comments
I have a Mac (G4 OS 10.3.9) and a PC (Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit). I'm running ProTools on the Mac and I would like to connect the two so that I can use the PC like an external hard drive. I went to the Mac store and they said I could do file sharing over a network (too slow for recording) or take the hard drive out of my PC and get a dock for it (but I'd like to keep using my PC). I am wondering if there is another option to make this work or if I just have to buy an external hard drive.

So i finished building my first desktop computer early last week. And everything was great until i loaded up Windows 7 Pro 64 bit Operating System. But within 15 minutes of installing Windows, my computer crashed. I thought it was a problem with the fact that i upgraded to the 64 bit version of windows but i checked with my CPU and it says its compatible. So i didnt know what the problem was. So ive only been able to boot up and use the computer for 15 minutes at a time. Can anyone help?

» Compaq Presario CQ60-419WM Touchpad problems
Posted by cowgod2007 - 02-8-10 16:24 - 0 comments

So recently I was using my laptop when All of a sudden, the mousepad/touchpad stopped working for no apparent reason.

I checked the touchpad switch and it was on. I tried updating the drivers but whenever I go into system>device manager, there is no "mouse and other pointing devides" section (unless I plug in another mouse). The drivers all installed successfully so now I'm thinking its a firmware problem?

Could anyone help me with this problem? Would flashing bios help?

» windows wont boot with viamraid.sys installed, please help!
Posted by Ash - 02-8-10 11:40 - 0 comments
Hi, i have got a sata pci card and hope to run an extra hard drive off of it. The trouble is, when the driver for the pci sata card is installed (viamraid.sys), windows just wont boot up.

i know i can delete the viamraid.sys file from the driver folder in system32, which will let windows run fine, but then of course my sata card wont be recognised!

Anyone know what i can do??

Thanks

» Weird USB Problem...
Posted by Ajunoo - 02-8-10 07:23 - 2 comments
Ok, so I got a toshiba Satego Laptop, and am currently running windows 7.
I have 2 problems, which I feel could be connected though : First I got a "USB Composite Device" on one of my USB hubs (its the only thing that shows on this hub, I'm guessing its something internal in the laptop). And this Composite Device power supply shows "unknown" when its activated, and 500mA when its deactivated. No idea what it is, tried uninstalling deactivating and everything I could think of.
Secondly when I transfer data through my lan network here (I use wlan on the Laptop) my USB mouse gets all screwed up, it lags and haggles, only moves every other second for a bit, makes it quite frankly unusable. My touchpad and everything elses continues to work fine though, its not the computer that has the problem.

Well thanks in advance for any help, bye

» Registry Errors I hope
Posted by ajfisherman - 02-7-10 20:12 - 2 comments
So I have this Computer here and it seems to not like to stay logged in. When I click a user account it automagically logs me off. I foud a fix here (http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-50384-xp-auto-log-off?Acces=1#ecrire) except I cannot get into the registry because of the problem. Attempting to boot into safe mode gets me a BSOD with these exiting random values [0xc0000005 (0x80537009 0xf79a4508 0xf74a4204)].

I need more coffee, and less help desk,

» USB dongle causing computer to freeze
Posted by GreyBear - 02-7-10 18:09 - 1 comments
Hi all. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. Over the past couple of weeks my laptop has been freezing to the point where I can't do anything on it. Can't press ctrl+alt+delete or move the mouse pointer and I didn't know why but now I think I've figured out the problem.

I've have a o2 internet dongle for a few months now and it's been working fine ever since I got it but now I think it's what may be causing my computer to freeze. It connects to the internet fine but after about five minuets my whole laptop freezes. I then have to wait for however long it takes for a message to come up saying "o2 connection manager is not responding" then when I close the program, my computer is back to normal.

Does anyone know why my dongle could suddenly be malfunctioning and why it would cause my whole computer to freeze?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

» BSoD + Bios Problem
Posted by MGDCO - 02-7-10 15:28 - 1 comments
I have this really old computer...and recently...the computer just suddenly turned off by itself. When I tried to turn the computer back on...I get the blue screen. It said something about idechndr.sys No matter how many times I tried to reboot...it just wont go away. I tried booting up through safe mode...but the blue screen ended up appearing again, so I messed around with the Bios hoping that it would work. It turns out I just messed things up even more. When I try to start up my computer...it starts but with a black screen for a full minute and then a screen shows up and it starts to do memory testing and a memory frequency count at 266MHz pops up after the test. The screen just stays there the whole time no matter what I press...It said press DEL to enter setup/dual bios/Q-Flash...I tried but nothing worked. Whats worse is that when I tried to reboot....the screen stays black and wont even load. It only loads when I turn off the power supply at the back and reboot it up that way.

I have no clue what happened to my computer... dizzy.gif

» Random Lag
Posted by Kyuki - 02-7-10 12:11 - 3 comments
Yes, random lag. It's very frustrating and it only happens after I play a game for about fifteen minutes to an hour. I've been cleaning my registry, used cCleaner, attempting to do another Defrag. I've also updated my video driver, and then downgraded it, still nothing. I'm either pointing it towards bad ram or a bad mobo, but I have no clue and apparently I can't find out a way to update my BIOS.

» Another hello
Posted by Pepo - 02-7-10 09:05 - 3 comments
Hello from Kentucky and Florida.
To explain some things, we reside in warm weather in Kentucky and in cold weather in Florida.
Sometimes it does not quite work out that way, this morning it is 48F, brrr......
As a retiree my interests are still running quite wide from languages to woodworking to metal working to air cooled VWs to bee keeping and, of course the good operation of my computer. The computer is the gateway to answering many of my questions and interests and so I come here and hope to draw on you knowledge at times. Thanks

» New Build. Keeps Bluescreening. Please Help!! >_<
Posted by MJS - 02-7-10 08:42 - 1 comments
After christmas I decided to update. I had a dell Vostro 300 but it just wasen't cutting the mustard anymore... I already had a 9800GT OC2 so I decided to go for a build rather than buying a whole new PC. Below are the components I decided to get.

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173451 - Motherboard
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/177345 - RAM
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172755 - CPU

I also bought a new case the Antec 300
I have a 600W Artic Power PSU
3 LED 120mm Tricool Fans
1 Non LED 120mm Tricool Fan
1 Non LED 140mm Tricool Fan
320GB Sata HDD (This came with the DELL)
CD/DVD RW Disk Drive (Also came with the DELL)

When the components came through I built the PC and installed Windows Vista 32bit Home Basic (This also came with the DELL). All of a sudden the screen started glitching and it started to blue screen a lot saying Display driver crashed etc etc. I had all drivers up to date. The only conclusion I could come too was that the motherboard was faulty as my GPU works fine on my old one. I contacted Ebuyer had it returned. They said it was faulty and sent me a new one. I have now installed the new one and am having the same problems still. Anything slightly demanding makes it glitch and blue screen. Can someone please help me!! D:

» My computer fixed itself... Need explanation!
Posted by Slyburger - 02-7-10 08:39 - 3 comments
Hey guys,

I actually created a new account just because i have to know why this miracle happened. My computer fixed itself, and i NEED to know why. Here is my story.

My computer has never been a super fast machine. In fact it was frustratingly slow. After a little research i realized that 228 mb of ram, was not enough, in fact it was pitiful. So i went out and got a gig of ram. I didn't really read the instructions when installing the ram and just watched a Youtube tutorial. I never knew you were supposed to leave the computer plugged in (so i unplugged everything) Why is that anyways??

So i installed my ram and everything seemed normal except my computer would make a weird grinding noise when it would restart. But i'm like meh whatever. To my surprise the computer was still slow. Not just when a bunch of programs were running though, no. It would take like 10 seconds to open up "My Computer". The weirdest part is that my USB ports were not working anymore either... not ONE OF THEM!!!

So i pretty much gave up and started looking for a new computer. But i recently moved, and when i plugged my computer in at my new place (after 1 week of being unplugged) ... it was PERFECT. I have never seen my computer so fast, it feels like someone broke into my apartment and fixed my computer. My USB ports are also working... every last one of them. WTF???????

So i ask you this... WHY IS MY COMPUTER SO AWESOME NOW???

Things to consider
1. I did not leave my computer plugged in when i installed the ram.
2. At my old place the computer, speakers, monitory etc. etc. were all plugged into a dollarama outlet splitter thing.
3. I now have a new IP address since i moved... (is it possible my IP address was infected with a virus????)
4. Could simply unplugging a computer for a long period of time, somehow make it better??????

Thanks for reading my novel!

Burger out.

» I ruined my sound quality?
Posted by corvidae - 02-7-10 07:47 - 3 comments
Hey-
I downloaded a text-to-speech reader (at www.naturalreaders.com) to help me get through some terrible articles- after I was done I tried to play some music and now the voice/music ratio is off for some things- voices sound very far away if they are occuring simultaneously with music, but both music and voice are ok on their own... this is very frustrating because movies/tv/music all usually have a background noise played simultaneously with speaking, and the tiniest rustle of a paper in the back of the show will overpower the now very tiny voice...

I think this is a settings/software issue?

I've uninstalled that reader, checked for hardware conflicts, and basically gone through every volume setting and troubleshooting I can find on my computer, but I am not very savvy.

It's an Acer Aspire One, on Windows Xp, and I have a RealtekHD Audio Manager. The sound quality was perfect before I downloaded that reader.

Help?
