Well what I'm trying to do is play video files from my computer on my TV. My TV is really old and the only way would be through the red, yellow, and white input/output(I don't know the proper name for them). Would I need a graphic card for my comp in order to connect it to my old TV? What are the cables I would need?

I'm not sure if this is possible but can I use an external hard drive and connect it to some device(DVD player) so it can play on the TV.

What would the best and least expensive way to go about this?

BTW: I posted a topic about my on board sound card and it turns out it was damage. I got a sound card from my friend and it was solved. I want to thank those who help me.

For sure, your computer has a video card,. Or else, you will not be able to see what was on the monitor.

Except that , if your video card is good enough to be compatible for TV output.

Look behind your computer and see if you can spot a port that looks like a S-video jack.

Or take a picture and post it.

If you are lucky enough to have one good enough video card on your computer , the easiest way is to do as you said, Buy one of those cables and hook up to the TV .

Then do the settings from your computer to output it.

Else, I think the best option for you is to buy those portable media players, which supports the PAL standard.

Supporting PAL standard is important as you said your TV is old. If not , you can easily get one Ipod or even PSP to connect it to TV via component cables.

Then you transfer your videos to that device and play it right off on your TV.

Getting an extra video card an doing all the prep work to display it off an old TV seems like a waste of effort because...

If you are like me, you hate staring on a small screen and you wanted a better viewing pleasure. I actually bought one of these and it is great..

edit : Haven't finished explaining why buying a graphic card is a waste of effort.

Getting a video card to suit an old TV means getting an old graphic card. Soon in time, you will find that newer games cannot be run using this old video card that you just bought.

Current video card standards come with HD output that cannot be output on old PAL TVs

Would a vga to rca/composite cable be a good choice?

I'm not sure if my on-board video graphic(Intel extreme graphic 2) support pc to tv connection. How would I know if it does or does not?

Your the best Shingo lol!

[VGA to RCA composite cable. ]. Even though, such a cable exists, but your video card has to support TV output from that port.

For an onboard video , I don't think so.

Take a picture of your rear of your computer and I will be able to tell.

If you really want to output direct from VGA, you will have to end up paying more perhaps.

1) buy a VGA splitter device

2) Buy a VGA to PAL converter device
