Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 700m, and after it's on for maybe 15 min. it'll just shut down due to over heating.

I downloaded i8kfangui to control the fan speed and it works and my laptop doesn't overheat.

The problem is, when I run that program, sure the laptop doesn't overheat, but it goes ridiculously slow =(.

Does anyone have any experience with that program? Or know a different way to help?

Laptops, over time will accumulate dust in the air vents, I suggest one decent way to solve over heating problems is to get a laptop cooler pad.

Or another budget solution is to use something to raise the laptop slightly so that more air can ventilate under it.

With the dust problem you could always just clean the dust out? if its not that then yeah just be carefull where you put it. bed spreads are the worse I've found. do you have the same problem when the laptop is plugged in? if it was running on battery then I could see how it might be sapping the power from everything else in exchange for faster fans. I don't know that for sure but just try it.
