Hello all, this is my first post here.
I've been working on a problem for four days now with my system. Here are the specs: ASUS P4P800 running VIA VT6410 BIOS (ver. 08.00.08 ID P4P81088) Windows XP 32 SP3 Onboard 3Com Gigabit LOM Ethernet Adaptor I rebuilt my system a few years ago and I remember having some problems installing the ethernet card, but it worked. It stopped working when I came home from vacation, and it seems the BIOS reset itself because the computer was unplugged for too long. Now Windows will find an "ethernet card" in device manager, but when I point it to the .inf for the driver, it says: "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware" I have tried: 1) uninstalling the device in device manager, rebooting, disabling the device in the BIOS, rebooting, and enabling the device in BIOS again 2) decorating the .inf file 3) in the driver package, using the proprietary 3Com installer (see http://www.ntcompatible.com/Having_Trouble...MV_t26838.html) ...and pretty much every variation of these things. I'm still not getting windows to "smell" the driver, even though it's right under windows' nose. HELP, please! |
