Hello Everyone,

Here are my system specs:

Intel®
Pentium® 4 CPU 3.00GHz
3.00 GHz, 1.49 GB of RAM

So... I have this music creation program that lets me program drum and bass loops + synth melodies.

I used to be able to run this program without any problems.

My problem now is that the usage bar in the right hand corner of the app is really high whenever I do anything too complicated. I can string together very basic drum loops, maybe even have some bass going, but if I add anything else, like some synth effects, then the usage bar goes up past 80% and the sound starts stuttering and freezing and then it's just a struggle to get the damn thing to stop playing. This never used to happen. And I'm guessing there is a correlation between the usage bar in my music app, and the "system idle process" stat which is also very high. I am also aware that by pressing cntrl alt del, and then clicking on the process tab, I can shut down any unnecessary programs eating up resources. I am very careful to make sure nothing is running besides the system idle process, but the system is still slow. And the system idle process usually seems rather high.

PS: I clean up/maintain my system regularly with ccleaner, scandisk with repair, and defrag

So doing those things won't help me, because I've cleaned everything quite recently and regularly.

I heard that there is a type of malware that can go undetected, so perhaps I have a bunch of hidden malware draining my resources?

I was once told that to do delete this hidden malware, you should run the computer in safe mode, and then do the usual system maintenance procedures within safe mode. (Something about safe mode disables whatever normally protects the malware). However, I tried doing the safemode thing today, and I deleted everything through ccleaner, etc. However, when I reverted back into normal mode, it forced me to do a "system restore" which reverts the system back into the state it was prior to going into safe mode! So I'm worried that the bad stuff I managed to delete got restored. Regardless, my computer is still slow and I'm not able to do what I used to be able to do.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The problem sounds to me like it was a disk fragmentation issue, if you run a Windows Operating system it can cause problems after a few weeks of use due to the hard drive becomming fragmented. Lucky enough there are solutions out there, such as the Disk Defragmenter Tool.

May I suggest you follow the tutorial that is for your Operating System;
